A dedicated Christian girl’s basketball star from Western Michigan passed away unexpectedly.
Alia Zuidema, a student from Western Mi Christian High School, left after a protracted battle with pulmonary embolism.
Pulmonary embolism is a disorder where a blood clot prevents and limits blood flow to a pulmonary artery, frequently resulting in death.
Alia Zuidema was a Western Michigan Christian High School student interested in extracurricular activities. Her passing has left the school community, her family, and her friends in its wake.
When everyone learns of Alia’s passing, they are all shocked and saddened. They are already missing and remembering her, paying tribute to her, and sending their condolences her way.
Joshua Lester shared a tribute on Facebook, which states:
“Nothing will ever truly prepare you for this. No amount of classes, workshops, or sermons will ever prepare you when you hear that one of your soccer players went to be with the Lord.
I only knew Alia that long, but 2.5 months of soccer every day of the week is all it takes to get close. Alia was a bright young lady who was a joy to be around. She always had a joke and knew how to get everyone laughing. Alia was an excellent soccer player, and I was grateful to coach her for my short time with her.
While grieving and upset, I’m reminded that in these moments, God’s chest is both strong enough to beat on and soft enough to lean into. Please pray through this to the WMC soccer team and coaches, the WMC community, and the Zuidema family.

The Western Michigan Christian High School is situated near 455 East Ellis Road in Norton Shores, Michigan, where Alia was a gifted student with a deep affection for everyone. She enjoyed playing sports and being outside.
One of the players on the squad was Alia Zuidema, who topped the group with five assists. She actively participated in the match, ending with an astounding 61-14 victory.
Her family was everything to her. She will be buried at the Klaassen Family Funeral Home. The family will provide more information regarding her obituary and funeral arrangements.
