Michael Baker, a famous musician, was born in Los Angeles and began his musical career as a drummer in local bands.

Later in the 1980s, he settled in New York City and formally began his career as a session drummer. He rose to fame and was requested to perform alongside Whitney Houston, Sting, and Aretha Franklin.

The job Baker did with Whitney Houston was essential. He played the drums on many of her most popular albums and tours while serving as her music director for 18 years. During her latter years, he was one of the few persons who knew Houston well.

Michael’s musical journey features some of the most excellent musicians in the world while also showcasing his skill of jazz drumming.

He performed his drumming chops in the Broadway musical “Sophisticated Ladies” at the prestigious Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles in the early 1980s.

Michael contributed as a composer and arranger for HBO specials, Sports Illustrated events, and other projects throughout his extended eighteen-year partnership with the late Whitney Houston.

In addition to his work with Houston, Baker provided the drums for well-known musicians such as Al Jarreau, The Zawinul Syndicate, Wayne Shorter, and Jimmy Smith. He was also a founder member of Tribal Tech, a jazz fusion group.

In 2012, he also made memorable performances at the Grammy Awards alongside the hip-hop artist Ashanti. He performed with Sting at Carnegie Hall as part of the ‘Save the Rain Forest series.
